Ieoh Ming Pei
Ieoh Ming Pei is a Chinese-American architect. He was born in Canton, China, and as a young man, he immigrated to the United States where he began his studies. In 1955 he founded his own company, and among his outstanding works, you will find names such as the John F. Kennedy Library and Presidential Museum, in Boston, and the National Center for Environmental Research, in Colorado; but perhaps his most important work is the entrance in the form of a pyramid to the Louvre Museum in Paris. It is truly an iconic structure that attracts millions of visitors from all over the globe.
Tom Wright
The architect Tom Wright was born in England in 1957. He works for the international company Atkins, and his main works are located in Southeast Asia. The work that places him among the most important contemporary architects is the Burj Al Arab Hotel, in Dubai.
Jørn Utzon
Jørn Utzon was the brilliant Danish architect who designed the Sydney Opera House, one of the best-known architectural works in the world. The building was inaugurated in 1973, and in 2007 was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Jørn Utzon died at age 90, in 2008, being one of the most important architects in the world. He designed dozens of works around the world, which earned him several prizes, including the Pritzker Prize, in 2003; the most important recognition for an architect.
Frank Lloyd Wright
Frank Lloyd Wright was one of the most important architects of the 20th century. He was born in the United States in 1869 and died at age 90, in 1959. His work was mainly focused on residential architecture, although it was also highlighted with some large buildings throughout the United States. Many of the houses he built were declared a National Historic Landmark by the government of the United States.
Among his most outstanding works we find, for example, the residence of Kaufmann, better known as “the house of the waterfall”, in Pennsylvania; the Darwin D. Martin House, in New York and of course, the Guggenheim Museum, also in New York.
Lee Adam Harryman
Lee Adam Harryman might not be as well-known as the other guys on this list, but his contributions are still amazing. Born in 1968 in Britain, worked as the Senior Design Architect with James Stirling & Michael Wilford, before moving to DP Architects Ltd. He was appointed as the Head of Architecture and Design for the Terminal 3 at Changi Airport, which is widely ranked as the best airport in the world. He even worked as the Head of Architecture at the New Doha Airport in 2000. He is currently overseeing the development of the Hamad International Airport and is the Director at the CPG Office on behalf of the Civil Aviation Authority in Qatar.
